Eating Disorder Therapy

In a time where we are bombarded by mixed messages about food and weight, it is easy to understand how someone can adopt an unhealthy relationship with food and his/her body.

It often starts innocently with a diet or a new workout plan and over time becomes increasingly all consuming and potentially life threatening. If you suspect you are struggling with an unhealthy relationship with food, weight, and/or your body, ask yourself these questions…

  • Do the all consuming thoughts about food, weight, and your body impact your relationships and/or any aspect of your daily functioning?
  • Do you avoid socializing with friends and family during events that surround food? Do you find yourself mainly eating 'clean' or 'healthy' foods?
  • Are you responding to internal thoughts that say you are not good enough, thin enough, attractive enough?
  • Do you compensate with exercise or other behaviors after eating?
  • Have you tried to improve your relationship with food or your body but are unable to do so on your own?

If some of these questions resonate for you, it is possible that you are struggling with an eating disorder or have disordered eating patterns and could benefit from treatment. Imagine what it would be like to enjoy food, no longer think about it 24/7, be more present in your body and your relationships during mealtime, and avoid long-term health consequences.

By utilizing skills-based interventions to cope differently, insight-oriented approaches to deepen your understanding of the disorder, and informed by the Intuitive Eating model of nutrition, it is possible to move past the dysfunctional way in which you relate to food, weight, and your body.

Although it seems daunting now, recovery from an eating disorder is possible.

“All you need are hope and strength. Hope that it will get better and strength to hold on until it does.”
